Calvin Joins Our 'Pack'

We first saw Calvin in a plea sent out by AFF. I remember seeing this tiny white pup in a cage at the shelter, in danger of being euthanized. His neck was rubbed raw because his previous owners didn’t care enough to even loosen his collar as he grew.

We immediately contacted AFF to let them know that we were interested in fostering but, someone else had stepped up first.  However, a few months later, that foster home fell through and we were given the opportunity to foster Calvin.

He was brought to our home in late 2007 at five months of age. We immediately fell in love with him. It has been a real learning experience and a huge eye opener regarding the Pit Bull breed. The discrimination and bad reputation that this breed receives is so very much unfounded. Calvin has been nothing but loving to everyone he encounters and is absolutely perfect and well-behaved with our two young children.

It hasn’t always been easy for our family due to our lack of experience with strong, powerful breeds. (Strong breeds don't necessarily equate to dangerous.) That all turned around upon working with AFF’s amazing trainer.  He taught us everything we needed to know about gaining the trust and respect of all our dogs. Proper training for both human and canine was key. We now have a well-rounded “pack.”

We are so grateful to be able to call this beautiful dog a member of our family.
