Love at First Sight

For several months, I had been searching online for another Lhasa Apso to bring into our lives after losing our beloved Lhasa, Precious, who was almost 17.  Precious had been given up to a shelter at 6 months, then adopted out for another 5 months. When that owner needed to return to work, it was through a neighbor's daughter that we found Precious. When we met Precious, she was a neglected tangled mess that needed a good forever home.  We have always believed in rehoming dogs and shared that information with scores of people when they would admire Precious, and her long, flowing locks.

The day I saw the picture of this sad looking little Lhasa named Mike, it was love at first sight! The notes explained that his human mother had passed away and he needed a new home.  I can honestly say that one look at that sweet face and I just knew he had found his new forever Mom.  My husband and I contacted Heather at Animals First Foundation, who was happy to set up a meeting with Mike.  We came straight home to download the adoption papers. We were happily on our way to completing our family as we are older empty nesters, who have plenty of time for "Puppy Love."

Heather brought Mike to us at our home. He instantly took her on a tour of our house, jumped onto the living room sofa next to me and settled down for a nice visit.  He just fit right into our hearts and lives.  He is a very intelligent four year old, completely house broken and doesn't disturb anything in our cluttered house.  Mike already knew his basic commands and does not beg!  He enjoys a good diet before we sit to have our dinner. He keeps us company resting on a little settee under the window in our breakfast room.  He has found "nests" all around the house and likes to be near us at all times.  This Lhasa is a wonderful companion dog without being needy.  We have since renamed him Teddy and he is responding well to his new name.

For anyone looking for a pet addition, I would urge you to consider rehoming an older dog through Animals First Foundation.  The staff is careful about matching up the pets with owners in such a responsible way.  I firmly believe that the 30 day required waiting period shows their commitment to making certain all parties are happy and well suited.  We passed our thirty days quickly and feel blessed to have this wonderful dog to love.
